Q: On an enlightened one, what is the effect of Karmas?
A: The Prarabdha Karma is very powerful, in the absorbed
one the effects continue and is exhausted by him endures he
with cheerfully. The prarabda Karma are like dream objects
to one who is absorbed. Sanchita Karma, incurred during the
present life, are destroyed by the fire of perfect knowledge.
So also that of agami ( future karma).
Q: Is the one in Samadhi state not subject to illusion?
A: The absorbed one does not make such distinctions
as ‘I’, ‘mine’ ‘ this’ with respect to this illusory body
and the world to which it belongs, but remains wakeful and
conscious of higher self. In him there are no desire strengthening
illusory objects, nor does he perceive any advantage in this
world. Eating, sleeping, etc are to a wise man but as a recollection
of objects seen in a dream. In Him mental activity has
vanished. He knows neither ‘This’ nor ‘that’, nor what this
bliss is, its extent, nor its limit.
Some quotations from the scriptures about the state of the
one who has attained illumination.
“As water dos not stick to the lotus, so after realization
future actions cannot stick to the knower”
Chandogya Upanishad
4.14.3
“Just as the cotton like flowers of the Isika seed are burnt
by fire in a moment, So are the accumulated past actions of
the knower are burnt up because of realization”
Chandogya Upanishad
5.24.3
"Just as a blazing fire reduces the fuel to ashes, so,
Arjuna, the fire of knowledge burns up all actions”
Krishna, Bhagavat Gita 4.37
“When a man has known the effulgent Self, all his bonds are
cut asunder, his afflictions cease. There is no further birth
for him”
Svetasvatara Upanishad
The
first and foremost of all thoughts, the primeval
thought in the mind of every man, is the thought
‘I’. It is only after the birth of this thought
that any other thoughts can arise at all. |
